Norsok Certificate – What is it needed for?
According to the requirements of most Norwegian employers, an industrial painter should be trained by an inspector who holds the appropriate qualifications, including the ability to issue the Norsok and/or Epoxy certificate.

The purpose of the course is to gain knowledge in the following areas:
- Basics of corrosion processes and protective methods
- Surface preparation
- Paint application
- Quality control
Those who meet the requirements complete the course with the awarding of the Norsok M-501:2022 and EPOXY certificates.
Additionally, during the sessions, we address topics related to work standards in Norway. We also discuss the current job market situation in 2024.
Certificates are issued by FROSIO level III inspectors, who have many years of experience supervising offshore projects.
Training Program:
Norsok M-501:2022 + EPOXY – a one-day theoretical training designed for industrial painters working on offshore projects, including in Norway.
The Norsok M-501:2022 course includes:
- Introduction to the Standard
- Procedures and requirements of the Standard
- The role of the inspector, tasks, equipment
- Surface preparation before starting abrasive blasting
- Cleaning and preparing surfaces before paint application
- Surface preparation – assessment
- Climatic conditions control
- Preparation for applying two-component paints (mixing and thinning)
- Discussion of different paint application methods
- Parameters of airless spray application
- Preparation for coating quality assessment
The Epoxy course includes:
- Chemically curing paints (’EPOXY’)
- Discussion of the harmful effects of chemical factors
- Allergies and skin changes
- Epoxy, polyurethane, epoxy-phenolic paints, isocyanates, and thinners
- Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for Hazardous Products
- Two-component paints – rules for use
- Personal protective equipment
Training Methodology
The theoretical part of the training is conducted in the form of a lecture, and the result of the training is the issuance of the Norsok M-501:2022 and EPOXY certificates.
